The Year I was Pregnant and still managed to go to 8 concerts.
Last New Years Eve, I hosted an intention setting ceremony at Triangle Foundry. It's been in my practice to do my own personal intention setting ceremony since 2021 and it's been nice to share it with others. I made my intention for 2024 to do hard things. I cannot stress enough the importance of taking caution when burning things into the universe. The universe took this intention and ran with it in all of the ways I didn't intend. Let's get into it.
In January, I started running with the intention of running a 5k in 2024 (spoiler: it didn't happen).
My dear friend Dianne passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Dianne was hands down the most selfless person I've ever met. She embodied joy and strength. I was honored when her husband asked me to come visit her in the hospital when they knew things weren't going well. Everyone who has ever met Dianne is better for having met her. I miss her deeply and I so wish she had gotten to meet my daughter. She would have cried.
In February we welcomed our third dog Hank into our home. Ten days later, I found out I was pregnant. We traveled to California for Susan's wedding and visited our second National Park together (Channel Island)
In March I went to my first hockey game. Im still not a hockey fan but I do recommend watching in person just to put into perspective how fast they are skating.
In April one of my poems was published in a magazine, Jenna and I spent an entire day driving around Erie to listen to the new Taylor Swift album, and I found out I have Lyme disease.
My knee randomly started to swell up and a friend of mine suggested I go to the doctor to make sure I don't have a blood clot since I was pregnant. I didn't but I had six cysts behind my knee, later found out it was caused from undiagnosed lyme disease. Anyway, this is when I stopped running.
In May my dad and I went to Indianapolis for a George Strait concert. It was great.
In June I started a new part time job as the Executive Director of the Indiana Arts Council. Jenna and I booked a glamping cabin for a weekend just to read by a lake, and Pippi turned 1!
In July Dan and I went on a road trip to visit three more national parks and I went to Philly for Sandra's wedding.
In August we went to Maine to visit Dan's family and I got my boating license because why not.
In September I went to Barbara's wedding and had my baby shower.
In October we welcomed our daughter Eleanor the day before our one year anniversary. She's perfect and I love her. That's all I have to say about that. I'll save the traumatic stories for when we have a drink together.
November and December were largely spent hanging out with my daughter and getting back into the groove of life.
It was a very hard year because it turns out I really, really, really hate being pregnant. Doing this look back was helpful to see that I did in fact do a lot of fun things this year, I just don't remember because I was miserable most of the year. I joked that my intention for 2025 is "no hard things" and while that's not true, I am enjoying that every bad thing that happens I get to tell myself "at least I'm not pregnant".
